Abstract The paper analyzes the influences on Lymantria dispar L.'' s growth and development caused by the primary trees and shrubs in Beijing area, on the condition that the Lymantria dispar L. larvae are raised indoors. Experiments on survival of the first-instar larvae shows: there exists an obvious difference among the representative plants, that is, the first-instar larvae have a lower mortality in Diospyros kaki L. , Armeniaca sibirica (L. ) Lam., Cotinus coggugria Scop., Paulowina tomentosa ( Thunb. ) Steud. and Rhus typhina Mutt. etc. , while they have a higher one on the same conditions of Juglans mandshurica Maxium. , Sophora japonica linn. ,Robinia pseudoacacia Linn. and Alianthus altissima Swingle etc. Experiments that studied the utilization and transformation of the fourth-instar larvae of Lymantria dispar L. reared on different food plants shows: the Lymantria dispar L. larvae have a higher nutrient effect to Diospyros kaki L., Cotinus coggugria Scop., Arme-niaca sibirica (L. ) Lam and Populus canadensis Moench, they have a relatively lower nutrient effect to Pinus armandii Franch., Sophora japonica linn., Robinia pseudoacacia Linn. , Fraxinus chinensis Rosb. and Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) transgenic poplar ( Populus nigra L.).
