攀援灌木。叶对生，具柄。花两性，具苞片1和小苞片2，组成腋生和顶生圆锥状穗状花序。花被片5，干膜质，背面近先端被长柔毛。雄蕊5，与花被片对生，花丝基部合生，花药2室；退化雄蕊5，和雄蕊间生，与花丝等长或较长。子房上位，1室，胚珠1颗，花柱1，柱头头状。果实为胞果。
单种属，分布于喜马拉雅东部至云南中部和广西西部。

巨苋藤属 ju xian teng shu

Climbers large, woody, with pendulous branches. Leaves opposite. Spikes terminal or axillary from uppermost nodes, often panicled, on pendulous peduncles; midvein of bracteoles flexible, mucronate. Tepals 5, rigid. Stamens 5; filaments shortly connate at base, alternating with pseudostaminodes, pseudostaminodes oblong, long fimbriate; anthers 2-loculed. Ovary oblong, compressed; style slender; stigma minute. Fruit oblong, 1-seeded, indehiscent.

One species: Asia.
