Abstract The four ornamental grasses Ophiopogon intermedius ''Argenteo-marginatus'',O.japonicus, Hemerocallis fulva ''Stella de Oro''and Iris tectorum in Minjiang River Park of Fuzhou were collected by random sampling method. The carbon content of the plants and of their roots and leaves were measured by wet combustion method to compare and analyze the characteristics of carbon content and carbon sink function. The results showed that carbon content rate of four ornamental grasses ranged from 39.20% to 42.71% and O.japonicus had the highest carbon content rate. Carbon content rate exhibited significant differences in the same organ of four ornamental grasses, and the carbon content of different organs in the grass had highly significant differences. The carbon content of the aboveground part was greater than that of the underground part. The carbon storage of four ornamental grasses ranged from 0.26 to 0.43 t·hm~(-2). The carbon storage of underground organs of O.intermedius ''Argenteo-marginatus''and O.japonicus were greater than those of aboveground organs while Hemerocallis fulva ''Stella de Oro''and Iris tectorum showed the reverse pattern. The ratio of carbon storage between aboveground and underground among four ornamental grasses was from 0.38 to 2.36.
