Abstract Three species of medicinal herbs, namely, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, and Belamcanda chinensis, grow well on soil containing a lot of building material. Moreover, they grow neatly, and are resistant to cold, drought, disease, insect pests and infertility. They are good for greening land containing a lot of building materials in China north of the Yangtze River. At the same time, they can improve the soil.
