Yao Ruyu

Yao Ruyu, from Deyang, Sichuan, received a PhD from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, in 2018 and then carried out postdoctoral research at the Institute of Medicinal Plant Development, Peking Union Medical College; in 2024 Yao Ruyu joined the ethnobotany group of the Kunming Institute of Botany, CAS. With training in agronomy, biology, ethnobotany and pharmacy and a broad international outlook, Yao Ruyu has made important contributions to documenting the traditional knowledge of Chinese medicine and its dissemination abroad, and uses interdisciplinary approaches to study the conservation, development and sustainable use of medicine–food homologous plant resources and their traditional knowledge. Yao Ruyu has been supported by the China Scholarship Council programme for building high-level universities, the Postdoctoral International Exchange Program and the talent programme of the Kunming Institute of Botany. Yao Ruyu leads an NSFC Young Scientists project, a foreign-expert project of the Ministry of Science and Technology and a China Postdoctoral Science Foundation project, and has published 14 SCI papers as first or corresponding author.
