Sonamkyi is a faculty member, PhD and master's supervisor at the School of Life Sciences, Qinghai Normal University. Sonamkyi received a PhD from Peking University in 2017, worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS, from 2017 to 2019, and joined Qinghai Normal University in 2019. Sonamkyi was selected for the CAST Outstanding Chinese and Foreign Youth Exchange Program in 2019 and as a top talent of Qinghai's “Kunlun Talents – High-end Innovative and Entrepreneurial Talents” programme in 2020. Since 2009 Sonamkyi has studied the responses of alpine grassland ecosystems on the Tibetan Plateau to global climate change and biodiversity loss. Sonamkyi leads two NSFC projects and a youth project of the Qinghai Department of Science and Technology, and has published more than 20 papers in journals including Functional Ecology, Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology and Acta Prataculturae Sinica.
